CORONADO GLOBAL RESOURCES is one of the world’s largest producers of high-quality metallurgical coal. Through our market-leading technology and processes, we operate some of the safest, cleanest and lowest-cost mines in the industry.

Curragh Mine, location in the township of Blackwater, is one of the largest open-cut coal mines in the Queensland Bowen Basin. Curragh produces more than 12 million tonnes of coal per year with a mining fleet which includes 4 large draglines. Coal is mined from two mining areas and washed through two large plants with a number of different metallurgical products produced.

 

About the Role

 

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Mining Engineer to lead effective mine planning through structured and collaborative processes. Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, you will lead a focused team of Mining Engineers responsible for delivering drill and blast plans alongside short-term mine planning requirements. This role operates on a 5/2 roster.

 

In this role, you will drive meaningful change and influence by:

 

  • Ensuring 16-week design, reserve, and stage plans are in place to support mine schedules and operational goals, maintaining alignment with mid-term and budget strategies.
  • Leading design optimisation, planning, and scheduling activities while setting clear expectations for your team to meet and exceed.
  • Playing an active role in mine planning and scheduling to ensure short-term plans deliver the required coal quality and quantity to the ROM in line with approved monthly and quarterly targets.
  • Overseeing drill and blast designs and plans, ensuring compliance with all statutory and environmental regulations, with rigorous reconciliation and adoption of key learnings to enhance future blasts.
  • Delivering timely weekly and end-of-month reports.
  • Providing sound technical solutions to emerging challenges and maintaining robust reporting processes.
  • Monitoring and upholding environmental, safety, and health standards.
  • Mentoring and leading your team to consistently deliver high-quality outputs.

 

What You’ll Bring

 

  • Experience in open cut coal mining, with exposure to dragline, design, scheduling, drill & blast, dozer, and truck/shovel planning.
  • Proven track record delivering cost-effective mine design, planning, and scheduling.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across diverse stakeholders to support the Curragh Vision.
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills to drive safe, quality, and efficient production outcomes.
  • Proficiency with mining software such as Vulcan, Deswik, 3D Dig, Blast Logic, Spry, or similar.
  • A tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
