We are currently seeking an experienced Pit Geologist to join our Technical Services team at our Curragh Complex. This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a high-performing mining operation where your geological expertise will directly contribute to mine performance, resource recovery and day-to-day operational decision-making.

 

What You'll Do

 

You’ll play a key role in supporting safe and efficient operations by providing practical geological, geotechnical, and coal quality expertise to maximise recovery and maintain grade control. You’ll also guide and support site teams and contractors, ensuring work is delivered to a high standard and aligned with operational and business goals.


Your role will be interesting and varied and will include:

 

  • Conduct daily pit inspections and issue necessary coal, post-coal, and tuff permits to support safe and efficient mining operations.
  • Monitor coal loss and dilution in collaboration with survey, report outcomes to stakeholders, and ensure compliance with mining processes.
  • Support geotechnical analysis through hazard reporting, highwall mapping, pit floor inspections, and structural data collection.
  • Lead proactive communication with crews, contractors, and stakeholders to integrate geological and geotechnical considerations into daily operations.
  • Collaborate with production and technical services teams to identify opportunities to improve mining efficiency, performance, and operational outcomes.
  • Ensure all work is performed safely, in compliance with site procedures, and in alignment with best-practice standards and business requirements.
  • Provide operational guidance on stockpile management and coal quality to optimise product quality and maximise coal recovery

 

What You'll Bring

 

  • Previous experience in a similar Pit Geologist role;
  • Resource and coal quality modelling;
  • Tertiary qualifications in Geology/Geoscience;
  • Experience with mining software packages such as Vulcan, ISite, Geobank and GeologyCore;
  • Problem solving and strong analytical skills with a focus on continuous Improvement;
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment, with strong collaboration and communication skills.
