Manager Health, Safety, Environment and Training

CORONADO GLOBAL RESOURCES is a leading international producer of high-quality Metallurgical Coal. Our global operations are located in two of the world's largest and most productive metallurgical coal basins, the Bowen Basin in Queensland and the Central Appalachian region of the US. 

We are seeking a Manager Health Safety Environment and Training to lead the development, governance, and continuous improvement of our Health, Safety, Environment and Training systems across the Curragh Complex.

About the Role

Reporting to the Vice President Operations – Australia, this is a critical leadership role responsible for ensuring robust HST frameworks, environmental compliance, and governance systems are in place to support safe and efficient operations.

As a key member of the Curragh Leadership Team, you will provide strategic direction and functional leadership across HST systems, compliance, and environmental performance, partnering closely with operational leaders to enable execution excellence.

In this role, you will:

• Lead and optimise HST systems and frameworks, including SHMS, principal and fatal hazard management and reporting systems
• Oversee site-wide compliance, assurance and audit programs, ensuring alignment with regulatory and internal standards
• Drive environmental compliance and performance, including water management, rehabilitation and cultural heritage obligations
• Lead emergency response capability and ensure readiness across open cut operations
• Manage contractor compliance frameworks, systems and governance processes
• Partner with SSEs, operational leaders and HST teams to ensure effective system implementation and performance
• Lead HSET reporting and provide insights to support informed decision-making at a leadership level
• Build and maintain strong relationships with regulators and external stakeholders
• Drive continuous improvement across governance, risk and compliance systems
  
  

About You

You are a strategic and influential leader with deep expertise in HST systems, compliance and environmental management within complex operational environments. You bring a strong balance of governance, systems thinking and practical application, with the ability to partner effectively with operations to drive outcomes.

You thrive in leadership roles where you can shape frameworks, influence culture, and ensure systems translate into real operational performance.

Key Experience & Qualifications

• Extensive experience in HST, compliance or environmental leadership roles, ideally within mining or heavy industry
• Proven track record leading safety systems, compliance frameworks and assurance programs
• Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and environmental obligations within mining operations
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing, multi-disciplinary teams
• Experience working closely with operational leaders to embed systems into execution environments
• Tertiary qualification in OHS, Environmental Science, Business or a related discipline (desirable)
• SSE qualification or ability to obtain (highly regarded)
